Principal Structural Engineer £ negotiable

This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to join a successful, established, civil and structural engineering design consultancy in a vibrant building structures team with offices in Nottingham and St Albans. 

We are offering the chance to work on some unique and exciting projects across a variety of building sectors across the UK. Having recently completed projects in The Shard, London, 21 Fenchurch Street (AKA Walkie Talkie Building) and other prestigious locations we are on the up.

Working for clients as diverse as Healthcare, Leisure, Hospitality, Commercial, Residential, Industrial and Educational Establishments you will not get tired of repetitive projects.

About you:

In order to be considered for this Principal Structural Engineering role you will need to be Chartered with the Institute of Structural Engineers and/or Civil Engineers or very near to achieving Chartered Status and you will have;

    • gained a degree in civil or structural engineering
    • a minimum of 6 years’ experience from a consultancy environment
    • experience of structural design across a multitude of building sectors
    • an excellent knowledge & understanding of British standards, Eurocodes and Building Regulations
    • a sound technical capability and familiarity with current industry standards and software applications
    • to clearly communicate technical detail to a non-technical audience
    • the skills necessary to prepare sketches, reports and specifications
    • the ability to use Microsoft Word and EXCEL to produce project related documents
    • the capability to use Analytical/Design software
    • proficient use of AutoCAD
    • an understanding of the CDM Regulations 2007 & 2015

Key Responsibilities:

    • Interpreting and delivering the structural brief
    • Technical contents of projects
    • Liaising closely with Client, Design team and Principal Contractor
    • Supporting in the planning and programming of technical delivery
    • Identification and management of technical risks
    • Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and appreciation of current technical engineering codes
    • Implementation and production of standard documentation within company
    • Winning new business from new and existing clients

    • sound technical capability and familiarity with current industry standards and software applications
    • posses strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • the ability to use Microsoft Word and EXCEL to produce project related documents
    • the capability to use Analytical/Design software including AutoCAD
    • have knowledge of Health & Safety regulations

Key Responsibilities:

    • Production of structural calculations and drawings for traditional materials (Timber, concrete, steel and masonry)
    • Using associated software for analysis purposes
    • Checking of designs
    • Liaising with other engineers from various disciplines to ensure accuracy
    • Carrying out site visits and inspections
